Empire of Estates: Drama in the Real Estate Realm 1

If you’ve spent any time in the real estate realm, you’ve likely been approached at some point by a coaching and consulting business and thought…

Wait, are those two things synonymous? What is the difference between coaching and consulting in business? And is there a difference between coaching and consulting for realtors?

All are excellent questions that we’re going to answer today. But I wanted to change things up a bit and incorporate a little narrative in with today’s tips and tricks. It’s part cliffhanger, part soap opera… and a whole lot of fun.

Deb and Billy’s story is over-the-top real estate drama. But I’m betting shades of it will sound familiar to you…and their trials and tribulations make the perfect backdrop for explaining why it’s important to understand the difference between a coaching and consulting business and which will work best for you.

And so, without further ado, enjoy episode 1 of Empire of Estates.

“She’s nuts…”

Deb rested her For Sale signs on the ground next to her, leaning them against her thigh as she took in the house before her.

The massive “cottage” was an old home with windows that glared out at the street like dark gaping eyes and rotting trim that had weathered far too many storms. A crow circled the building as if checking out Deb before ominously coming to settle on the decaying roof.

“The stager can do something with that porch, and I know a great guy for the landscaping… but that roof… woof…” Billy, her colleague, said, shuddering dramatically for comedic effect.

Deb had been so excited when the former starlet and current community activist and social media darling walked into the office looking for a realtor to list her old family home.

But, as she looked at the dilapidated mess at the end of the driveway in the early morning light, Deb realized she’d over-promised when she had assured the leading lady that it could be ready to list in a week.

She’d just assumed that an old family property belonging to someone that famous would be… well…fancy, big, and well-maintained.

This was anything but.

As she turned to Billy to ask if he also had a roofing guy, she noticed a slight movement out of the corner of her eye. The curtain in an upstairs window moved, ever so slightly.

Billy gasped. He saw it too.

Deb shook her head in denial even as a chill ran down her spine. The house was supposed to be abandoned. So, who could be inside?

Poor Deb and Billy. It definitely sounds like they could benefit from a little professional help. But do they need to retain the services of both a coaching and consulting business? Let’s explore the difference between the two.

What is the difference between coaching and consulting in business?

If you’re wondering what the difference between coaching and consulting in business is, you’re not alone. A consulting business is going to help you with a singular challenge in your business. A consultant often swoops in, Superman style, and solves the problem within your business. A coach, however, is in it for the long haul and offers holistic help to not only solve problems but also develop your skills as a leader.

Is there a difference between coaching and consulting for realtors?

The quick answer to the question “is there a difference between business coaching and consulting for realtors?” is yes. A consultant can help you with specific problems—how to retain new clients, set healthy goals, or, as is the case with Deb and Billy, help you get your new business off the ground.

A coach can do that and so much more. Coaches offer long-term guidance, helping you see through blind spots, play up your strengths, and downplay weaknesses. Deb and Billy could definitely use the help of a coach because it seems they are letting their client walk all over them.

A well-experienced realtor coach can offer you the benefits of both a coaching and consulting business without the extra expense.

And what will become of Deb and Billy? Tune in to the next episode to find out!
