What Fulfills You? The Wheel of Life and Leadership Coaching

As we go about our daily lives, it is easy to get caught up in the stress that comes as we try to juggle deadlines, projects, and getting kids to a million different activities, all while maintaining a healthy work-life blend. Inevitably, some aspect of life gets left behind… leaving us with a sense of being off balance and fundamentally unfulfilled. Many call this languishing. Languishing is what many of us have been experiencing the last few years.

Sometimes, life just gets in the way.

We stay in a job we hate because we fear the unknown and what this change might look like . We put the needs of the family above our own and feel as if the opportunity for professional advancement is slipping through our fingers like grains of sand. And some don't think they are good enough or worthy enough to be in a better situation. When you're wrestling in the weeds, it can be hard to see where you're succeeding and where you're falling behind. It can make finding fulfillment seem daunting.

The Wheel of Life:

The Wheel of Life is an excellent assessment tool that shifts our perspective to the big picture.

You'll see it divides the totality of life into eight categories.

Each ring on the wheel is numbered from 1 - 10, and users are instructed to rate their fulfillment in each pie-shaped area (with 1 being low fulfillment and 10 being completely fulfilled). Using this tool, clients can see in which areas they are proficient and which are being neglected. You may find that, while you are sailing through your career feeling utterly fulfilled, you are failing to make time for fun and recreation. Being aware of the discrepancy can help you avoid professional burnout. For me, this avoids being grumpy, just ask my family!

This tool helps client remove the blinders and take stock of their life, allowing them to see where they are succeeding and where they need to put in some work.

How Can Leadership Coaching Help?

During coaching sessions, we'll use the Wheel of Life, identify core values, and other tools to assess the state of your fulfillment. We'll identify any sources of dissatisfaction and/or unfulfillment. While such exploration can be highly personal, finding the reasons behind a lack of fulfillment and moving in a new direction with clarity and action steps are key in changing life's trajectory.

Common sources for a lack of fulfillment can include guilt, perfectionism, and settling for less than what you want. Are you letting your ideal career go because you think it's best for your family? Are you staying with a company because you're afraid of the unknown? Do you ignore your budget and spending plan?

Together, we'll work to develop the skills in you that can lead to greater fulfillment and will put in the hard but rewarding work of changing behavioral patterns that keep you from taking that leap of faith and just going for it. LEAP WITH ME!
