Unique to You: Your Core Values

What are core values? Are you aligned with yours?

As you go about life, are you living and working in a way that is aligned with your values? I realize this is a big question, and some of your may be thinking…Aligned with my values? I’m not even sure what my values are.
If this sounds familiar, know you are not alone. So many of us get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our everyday personal and professional lives, feel pressure to act in one way or another, and end up making knee-jerk decisions without pausing to consider if those decisions align with our core values.
So, let’s press pause here for a moment and break this subject down.

What are core values?

Core values are those firmly held beliefs that are integral to how you live your life. Your values allow you to live life in an authentic way and are key to finding personal and professional happiness.
No two people share the same core values—yours are as unique as your fingerprints. Perhaps yours are integrity and honesty. Or maybe you find trust and accountability to be principles you hold dear. Our core values are those deeply ingrained beliefs that have been taught to us over the years by people in our lives—parents, teachers, coaches, and other important figures. You may have been born with some.

Why is it important to identify your core values?

Many of us go through day-to-day life without thinking about our core values, unless something drastic occurs that goes against what we believe.

But if we take time to press pause and reflect on our own deeply held beliefs, we become more self-aware and can make thoughtful decisions that better align with who we are. This, in turn, leads to greater satisfaction in both our personal and professional lives. This is one key component to feeling happiness and fulfillment. Promise.
